Kris Gaskin will give a Gallery Talk on Friday, March 8 at 11:00 on the second floor of the Duxbury Free Library in front of the display case.

The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society will be showcasing a white cotton skirt and jacket worn by Judith Winsor Smith over the span of 50 years.  She personally donated the clothing to DRHS in 1921, after (in her words) spending 4 delightful weeks visiting in Duxbury, including time spent at the "Duxbury Historical Rooms".

Judith Winsor (McLaughlin) Smith was born in Brant Rock in 1821.  She and Sylvanus Smith were married in the new Unitarian Church in Duxbury on Nov. 25, 1841, before the Thanksgiving service.  Judith and her mother Polly were mother/daughter friends with Lucy Stone (founder of the American Woman Suffrage Association) and her daughter Alice and actively worked alongside them for women to gain the right to vote.

This event is presented by the Clothing and Textiles Committee of the DRHS in partnership with the DFL.
