Blithewold is a historic, 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay located in Bristol, RI. It is significant as an example of the Country Place Era in the U.S and for its adoption of Arts and Crafts Movement ideals. The property features a 45-room English style manor house filled with family heirlooms, surrounded by a mature arboretum and a series of gardens that are a combination of historic and contemporary gardening. The 10-acre Great Lawn, Enclosed Garden, Orchard, and Cutting and Vegetable Gardens were laid out in the late 1890s are but the first of many that were developed later. There is a gift shop on the premises.

Pass Benefits

One pass admits up to six visitors at a charge of $8.50 per adult, $3 per youth (6-17 year old). Not valid for special programs and special events.

Please visit the library the day before your visit with your library card to pick up your reserved pass.  This is a RETURNABLE pass that must be brought back to Duxbury Free Library by the time the library opens on the day following use or a $5.00 per day fee may be charged.

Historic New England is a historic preservation organization which owns and operates historic house museums and properties open to the public throughout most of New England. The majority of the 36 properties are in Massachusetts, but locations exist in all NE states but Vermont. These include Castle Tucker (Wiscasset, ME), the Jackson House (Portsmouth, NH), the Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm, which (Newbury, MA), Roseland Cottage (Woodstock, CT), the Otis House (Boston, MA), the Lyman Estate (Waltham, MA), Gropius House (Lincoln, MA), and the Arnold House (Lincoln, RI). Styles represented include Federal, Colonial Revival, Victorian, Queen Anne, Arts & Crafts, and Modern, among many others.
