Founded in 1913 by the Science Teachers’ Bureau, the Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museum in the world and one of the few that maintain a collection. Designed for both children and families, the Museum exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health & fitness, and the arts, emphasizing hands-on engagement and learning through experience, and employing play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children.

Once your reservation has been accepted and submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to print your pass directly from home. Please follow the instructions included in your email.  There is no need to visit the library in order to access your printable pass.

Pass admits up to four (4) people at half priced admission.  For current ticket pricing, hours, policies, and procedures please visit the museum's website at www.BostonChildrensMuseum.org or contact the museum directly at (617) 426-6500.  The museum's hours are extended during the summer months of July and August, and revert back to their fall-spring schedule in September. On the first Saturday of each month the museum opens at 10 a.m.  Library coupons are not valid for Sunday afternoons (Admission is $1 per person on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.).  Museum open dates and times are subject to change.  It is strongly recommended that patrons check the website for all updates and with any additional questions.

The Harvard Museums of Science & Culture is a partnership of museums on the Harvard University Cambridge campus dedicated to the natural world, science, and human cultures. They include the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments, the Harvard Museum of Natural History (comprised of the Harvard University Herbaria, Mineralogical and Geological Museum, and Museum of Comparative Zoology), the Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East, and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, all located between Oxford St./Divinity Ave area. Of particular note are the famous glass flowers, models commissioned by Harvard in 1886 to aid in the teaching of botany (and made in Germany over the course of more than eight decades), on display in the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

Heritage Museums & Gardens is located on 100 acres on the banks of Shawme Pond in Sandwich, MA. The gardens feature internationally important collections of rhododendrons, a comprehensive collection of hydrangeas, a collection of over 1,000 varieties of daylilies, hostas, herb, heather gardens, and more than a thousand varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers along paths. An outdoor “Nature Explore Classroom” facilitates encounters with nature and STEM concepts for children ages 2 through 10. In addition, three gallery buildings house permanent exhibits of world-class automobiles, a working vintage carousel, American folk art, and special exhibitions. There is a café and gift shop on the premises.

One pass that admits up to 6 individuals, adult or youth at half-price admission to the museums, grounds and gardens. Children age two and under admitted free. Not valid for special events including Sandwich Halloween Festival and Gardens Aglow or for Aerial Adventure at Heritage. This pass is available April-October.

The House of the Seven Gables, one of the oldest surviving timber-framed mansion houses in continental North America, was the setting of Nathaniel Hawthorne's famous 1851 novel of the same name. The historic site which includes the house (a National Historic Landmark District) includes a guided tour of the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion (the House of the Seven Gables) and visits to the Nathaniel Hawthorne Birthplace, the Colonial Revival seaside gardens, and the Counting House, with a maritime discovery zone called “Kids' Cove at The Gables.” (An audio tour of the gardens, grounds, and waterfront is available through the UniGuide App.) Lectures and seasonal living history labs are scheduled throughout the year, and a changing annual exhibition examines various aspects of the institution's 350 years of history. There is a gift shop on the premises. The website has virtual field trips and interactive exhibitions that can provide helpful background information before a visit.

One pass admits up to 4 visitors at a reduced rate of  50% off regular admission per visitor for either the Guided Tour Package or the Grounds Pass.  Advanced ticket purchase is not currently required, but highly recommended by the museum.

This pass is a paper pass that needs to be picked up at the main Circulation Desk of the library up to one week prior to the date of your reservation. Please have your library card available when you visit to pick up the pass. Pass does not need to be returned, as you will be required to turn it over to the museum at the time of your visit.  There is a code on each pass that will enable the purchase of tickets in advance, but pass will still need to be presented at the Admissions Desk of the museum at the time of the visit.

The New England Aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic animals, from the giant Pacific octopus to Northern fur seals to little blue penguins. Plimoth Patuxet Museums offers a living history that tells the story of the English colonists who became known as “Pilgrims” and the Native Americans with whom they interacted. A big draw is the re-creation of the original settlement, populated with interpreters in period dress with whom one may interact that are based on actual historical figures. Native People from various nations in historically accurate dress provide information about the Wampanoag—the first tribe the Pilgrims encountered—at a home site based on how the group would have lived in the 17th century. In addition to the two settlements, the museum includes a visitor center, the Craft Center, barns that contain rare and heritage animal breeds, and a grist mill that manufactures cornmeal. Plymouth Patuxet Museums is also responsible for the replica of the Mayflower, the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World.

Located in Middleboro, MA, the Robbins Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology was founded in 1988. Its collections and archival holdings focus on the First Peoples of New England and include extensive materials related to historic and contemporary Native American tribal descendants. Visitors may see unique stone tools, ceramic vessels, and other artifacts dating back 12,000 years; the Doyle Native American Ethnographic Collection of 20th century dolls and figurines; and a special “Walk Through Time” exhibit that takes one from the time of last glaciers to the modern era.

The Sandwich Glass Museum is dedicated to the history of the town in which it is located, with a special emphasis on the glass that made it famous in the 19th century. Thirteen galleries display their collection of old and modern examples of glass objects, including roughly 6,000 pieces produced at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in the 1800s on the site where the museum sits today. In addition, the museum hosts live demonstrations of glass-blowing. There is a gift store on the premises, which includes work by local glass-blowers.
